On August 31, 2026, brothers Doug and Drew launched VideoBro, a free iPhone app built around a simple idea: home movies were better when they felt like movies.
The camcorder gave family videos a natural shape. You put in a tape, passed the camera around, recorded moments as they happened and eventually ended up with a film of a trip, birthday, holiday or year of family life.
Smartphones made filming dramatically easier, but they also broke that experience apart. Videos now live as hundreds of short clips scattered across different phones, camera rolls, cloud libraries and old hard drives.
VideoBro brings the tape back, without bringing back the inconvenience.
Friends and family create one shared tape and film from their own iPhones. Videos are automatically collected in chronological order, regardless of who filmed them, creating one continuous record of the experience. When the tape is finished, VideoBro develops it into a single widescreen film that everyone on the tape can watch, ready to share with a link.
“In a world where everyone is making content for strangers, VideoBro makes content for you and your loved ones,” said co-founder Drew.
The app deliberately avoids turning home movies into another editing project. There is no editing timeline to arrange, no music library to search and no expectation that someone spend hours producing a polished montage. Clips can be trimmed or removed, but otherwise the chronology of the tape is preserved.
VideoBro now also includes an optional VHS mode that plays footage back with the look of an old home-video tape, pairing the familiar look of family camcorder footage with technology that would have seemed impossible in the VHS era: several phones contributing to one tape at once, automatic cloud storage, clips that show up on everyone's phone as they are added, and a finished movie that can be watched from a link.
How VideoBro works
- Start a tape. Create a tape and invite up to seven other people with a link. Guests can join without creating an account.
- Film normally. Everyone keeps using the iPhone's Camera app. With REC switched on in VideoBro, the horizontal videos they film are added to the shared tape automatically. Clips already on the phone can be added too.
- Build the movie automatically. Clips from every phone appear together in the order they were filmed.
- Keep editing intentionally simple. Clips can be trimmed or deleted, while the original chronology stays intact.
- Develop the tape. When everyone is finished recording, VideoBro combines the tape into one widescreen movie in the cloud.
- Watch anywhere. Finished movies live in each member's Tape Cabinet and can be shared through an unlisted browser link that needs no app or account to watch.
Old format, new technology
VideoBro is designed around the parts of camcorder-era home movies that were worth keeping: chronology, spontaneity, shared memories and the feeling that an event eventually became one complete film.
The technology underneath it is entirely modern. Multiple people can contribute from different phones, clips appear across the group as they are added, footage is stored in the cloud, and the completed movie can be watched without passing around a physical tape or transferring enormous video files.
The result is intended to feel less like creating content and more like recording a memory.
Pricing and availability
VideoBro is free and includes 2 GB of storage, about an hour of footage. Paid plans with additional storage are planned but are not yet available.
Each tape supports up to 8 people and up to 2 hours of footage.
VideoBro is available for iPhone on the App Store. Finished films can be watched from any modern web browser. Get VideoBro on the App Store.
